Program Information

  In the ever-evolving practice of plaintiff’s personal injury, there are few exemplary leaders of the profession who, through their vast trial experience, have the expertise that attorneys from all levels and specializations can learn from. 

In a brand new seminar, the Learn from the Legends Seminar, the Florida Justice Association will present three trial lawyer "legends" who will share their most valuable trial skills and tactics.

This year, the featured legends include Chris Searcy, Howard Coker, and Stuart Grossman. These three lawyers are "living legends" and intend to share their most valuable trial secrets. You will not get this information anywhere else!

The Legends

  Howard Coker is President and a founding partner of Coker, Schickel, Sorenson, Posgay & Iracki, formed in 1976. Recognized by peers as a prominent Florida trial attorney, he is a passionate and active advocate for the cause of justice. He is focused on representing plaintiffs who have been seriously injured by accidents, product defects, premises liability and other forms of negligence. In the pursuit of justice, Mr. Coker has tried over 350 jury trials to conclusion and handled thousands of mediated settlements — a top record for results.

  Stuart Z. Grossman is co-founder of the firm Grossman Roth Yaffa Cohen. Mr. Grossman is recognized as one of America’s pre-eminent trial lawyers concentrating in medical malpractice, products liability, police misconduct, aviation and personal injury litigation. His successful career is distinguished by an unprecedented number of favorable verdicts; he has consistently won some of the largest awards in Florida. Mr. Grossman was named Trial Lawyer of the Year by the American Board of Trial Advocates of Florida. He was the recipient of the Florida Justice Association’s highest award, The Perry Nichols Award, the FJA’s Compassionate Gladiator award, the FJA’s Crystal Eagle Award, the FJA’s Eagle Centurion Award and inducted into the FJA’s Hall of Fame. For years Mr. Grossman has been named in Best Lawyers in America. Lawdragon named him as one of America’s 500 leading attorneys in all fields. Florida Trend Magazine and Florida Super Lawyers have both named him as one of the state’s top 10 trial lawyers. He is a Fellow and Director of the prestigious International Academy of Trial Lawyers and was elected into the Iron Arrow, the University of Miami’s highest honorary society. He was named a Legal Legend by History Miami in 2015. When not in the courtroom, Mr. Grossman is an author and lecturer, and is actively involved in issues regarding the prevention of malpractice and catastrophic accidents. He is Chairman of Margaux’s Miracle Foundation, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York.

  Christian D. Searcy is President and CEO of Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley, P.A. For 43 years, he has litigated cases primarily involving catastrophic injury and death in venues throughout Florida, as well as other states.In 1977 at age 29, he became the youngest lawyer in the United States to achieve a $1 million dollar verdict for a single personal injury case. Since that time, he has compiled a long list of seven and eight figure verdicts and one nine figure verdict. In 2007, he achieved four eight figure verdicts in four different jury trials totaling over $100 million. Throughout his career, Chris Searcy has been honored to serve his clients, his profession and his specialty through volunteering his time and efforts. He went through the Chairs and served as President of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers (now Florida Justice Association) (1983-1989) and he’s served on its Board since 1979. He went through the Chairs and served as President of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (2003-2012) and serves on their Board as a past president. He is a Member of the Inner Circle of Advocates; a Diplomate in the American Board of Trial Advocates; a Fellow in the International Society of Barrister’s; and a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers.
